the argument is just dave-centric because the comic pretty regularly pokes fun at the cool trope he tries to play up

he is not cool in the “stoic douchebag popped collar” kind of way he wishes he was—he tries to emulate his bro’s style of cool but that’s not him and that’s where people get the idea that dave’s not cool
he is cool, however, in the sense that he’s a strong kid with a good heart...
